Blogging - Why do you do it?

There's has been a lot going on about how you can be a successful blogger/ why you should start a blog/ the power of the blogger. Recently this has appeared on my Facebook feed:

It's mainly the title here that bugs me. Bugs me a lot. Especially the 'make it famous' part.

This is not intended to be a ranty post, I just feel like if you want to start a blog then you shouldn't do it because you might become famous out of it. Don't get me wrong, those who do have earned it and go you if this is your ambition, you fully get my support. I however blog because I enjoy it.

I have always loved writing (whether or not I'm any good at it), I love sharing my experiences and tastes and most importantly, I like talking to people. Whether this is another blogger or a brand. I have never aimed to become famous out of blogging and when I've been asked 'what my end goal is', I don't really have one. I blog purely for my own enjoyment and if people are reading that's a wonderful bonus and it's always amazing if a brand has chosen you to work with them.

With my part out of the way, if you blog I'd love for you to tell me why you do and what you love most about it. Do you want to be the next Zoella or do you just love chatting like I do?

  1. For me, I found that writing my blog was good motivation for me to go out and actually do things (it worked, now I almost have too many things I want to do and see) and also it's a creative outlet for my photography which I don't get from my day job. Those who want to make it famous are the same people who will quit very quickly when they realise it's not easy and blogging actually takes a phenomenal amount of time and effort.

    1. That's a fantastic idea. I love finding new things to do and blogging is a great way of telling people more about what's happening in their area. There's nothing worse than having nothing to do at the weekend and sticking by the same routine week after week.

  2. I'd hate to be the next zoella, blogging just isn't about that for me! It's about having my own little space of the internet to write and vent if I need to :)

    1. You should never blog to become famous in my eyes. If you become famous then you are pretty damn good but fame isn't for everyone. Like you I would hate it because it's just not me. You've hit the nail on the head with it being your own space. Yes we have chosen to make ourselves open to the public as we're chatting away on the internet but it is a place for us to natter away and not be judged. Again, this could just be my opinion.

  3. I write my blog for me, I don't want to be in Zoella's position, though I think she has done amazingly well and fair play to her, fame just isn't for me. I would love to have my own range of candles or maybe a lip balm but that is about it for me x

    1. She has done SO well . Having your own range would be amazing and it'll take a lot of work to get there but good luck!!

  4. Totally agree. I like the fact that my blog has enabled me to stay at home with my little ones this past twelve months rather than having to go back after maternity, but I don't think I would like to become massively famous from it. I like to just be little ole Lou :)

    1. Perfectly valid reasons! I don't think people should start a blog just to become famous. Luckily for you and all the others above we choose to do it because we enjoy it and also our reasons, as small as they may be, have kept us going and we aren't disheartened by how not everyone knows our names.

  5. We don't blog to become famous, and if we are doing that we are doing it for the wrong reasons. Blogging is about a community, expressing yourself through writing, photography, fashion, whatever it may be. I blog because I love it. I would still blog even if I only had 10 followers!
