What would I say to my younger self?

Very blurry picture of me and my dad around 1988 - check out that mullet!
I'm really glad Charlie, Distracted convinced Absolutely Lucy to make this a tag. It got me really thinking about how the past 26 years have gone and if there's anything I would change. To be honest I wouldn't because the whole thing has been an adventure in someways and if I hadn't had made the mistakes I did then there's the possibility I wouldn't be where I am today. You know, the butterfly effect.

I've certainly gone through my fair amount of trials over the years and there's bound to be more to come but I wouldn't change a thing but I could certainly share some advice to my younger self. She's a stubborn little thing though so probably wouldn't pay attention...

Advice to AJ aged 5 - 11

Me and my brother - I think I was about 8 here...
  1. Lose the fringe. It doesn't suit you and you know you hate it.
  2. Get used to having your photo taken, don't hate your smile.
  3. Don't be afraid to know the answers. There's absolutely no harm in trying hard at school.
  4. Stop fighting with your brother not matter how much he annoys you.

Advice to AJ aged 11-16

Oh early mobile phones, Charlie and I skipping down the road because we're cool
  1. It's OK. It might not seem like it right now but it's OK and you'll get through it.
  2. Don't be afraid of people.
  3. Stop arguing with mum. Very soon she'll be your best friend.
  4. Accept your pale skin and crooked teeth. They make you who you are and you rock that pale skin!

Advice to AJ aged 16-18

Last day of school
First night out on the tiles
  1. Your UCAS application isn't the devil you think it is. Don't leave it to the last minute.
  2. Don't doubt your degree choice, it'll be the best decision you ever made
  3. You will lose friends at uni but that doesn't matter, the best ones will stick around forever
  4. Your weight doesn't matter. Stop panicking. You're beautiful. (yeah I said that)

Advice to AJ aged 18-21

Graduation day. Classily getting ready with mum in the toilet!
My mum and I all ready for my Grampy's 60th
  1. You don't have to like everyone at uni. You know you have your friends for life.
  2. There's no harm in reinventing yourself if you want to. Try on that jumpsuit and rock it with a pixie cut.
  3. Talk to your lecturers more, they will help you if you ask
  4. Don't let people tell you what to do. Go to your freshers' events, meet people, have fun.

Advice to AJ aged 21-26

Birthday at Musical Bingo
At a wedding earlier this year
  1. Dance like no one's watching, who cares what you look like (see above)
  2. Don't get hung up over him, you'll find someone better and will be so much happier
  3. Save money!
  4. Moisturise! You don't want wrinkles before you're 30!
As you can possibly see, Charlie, Distracted features heavily in this blog post!

What advice would you give your younger self?

  1. Yay! Glad you've done yours :) Although I'm pretty sure that pic of us with Megan is when we were 18, I'm sure I drove us to that park! I do love that photo of you and Jared though, such cuties!

    1. DAMN IT! We looked so young I thought we were younger. It's still a nice picture though.
